Review:

There is a very large shopping mall right next to the Kwun Tong MTR station. It is a nice place to go to as there are lots of shops and a pretty good cinema, and its location is very convenient. I go there quite often, yet in my opinion there is nothing worth eating. Therefore, every time I go there, I would visit Shanghai Wing Wah Restaurant.

Shanghainese food has always been one of my favourite styles of Chinese cuisine. Most of the well-known dishes are mild in taste, a little bit sweet, salty, and sometimes a little bit spicy. This family-run restaurant has been located in Kwun Tong for more than 30 years. Their inexpensive and delicious dishes, as well as their homey service, has gained them much love from the neighbourhood.

My favourite dish has to be their "Wined Chicken" ($40). Wined Chicken is steamed chicken cooked with a kind of Chinese red wine called "Fa Diu". The secret to make excellent Wined Chicken is to give enough time to let the taste of the wine to be absorbed into the chicken, while at the same time, without overcooking so as to keep the texture of the chicken tender. This is one of the best restaurants in Hong Kong for Wined Chicken. Besides, it only costs $40 for half a chicken! I know many places that are more expensive, yet not even half as yummy. Their "Pork in Spicy Soy Sauce" ($32) is also a must try, as it was an award-winning dish few years ago. Finally, I would also like to recommend their "Babao Tea" ($10 per person). The word "Babao" means 'eight treasures' in Chinese, which refers to the eight different healthy ingredients (eg: chrysanthemums, Chinese plums) in the tea. The tea is served in a traditional kind of Chinese tea cup, which could be rather difficult to use by new users or clumsy people. I would suggest to try using it carefully, or observe how other people use it. I am sure it could be a lot of fun.
